Large Fibrocaseous Nodule

Note the histopathologic changes in a case of coccidioidomycosis of the lung showing a large fibrocaseous nodule.

This disease is caused by inhaling arthrospores of the dimorphic fungus C. immitis. 40 percent of newly infected persons develop an influenza-like syndrome with fever, chest pain, cough, malaise, chills, night sweats, arthralgias, and a skin rash.
