Space Shuttle Photos – The STS-36 vehicle and launch platform were rolled out to Launch Pad 39A on January 25 after the shortest stay in the Vehicle Assembly Building since return-to-flight. The distance between the VAB and Pad 39A is about 3.4 miles. Atlantis is being prepared for launch on Mission STS-36 dedicated to the Department of Defense. Launch is currently targeted for February 22.

Space Shuttle Photos – The Space Shuttle Columbia rolls to Launch pad 39A from the Vehicle Assembly Building. Already inside the orbiter’s cargo bay is the payload for the upcoming STS-55 flight, the D-2 Spacelab module and Unique Support Structure. This will be the second German-managed Spacelab mission. STS-55 is targeted for liftoff at the end of February.

Space Shuttle Photos – With its twin solid rocket boosters and three main engines churning at seven million pounds of thrust, the Space Shuttle Atlantis thunders skyward from Launch Pad 39A. Liftoff of Mission STS-45 occurred at 8:13:40 a.m. EST, March 24, 1992. On board for the 46th Shuttle flight are a crew of seven and the Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science-1 (ATLAS-1). The launch is the second in 1992 for the Shuttle program and Atlantis’ 11th flight.

Atlantis lifted off on the 42nd space shuttle flight at 11:02 a.m. EDT on August 2, 1991 carrying a crew of five and TDRS-E. A remote camera at the 275-foot level of the Fixed Surface Structure took this picture.

Atlantis touched down at 6:23:6 a.m. EST, completing a highly successful flight that was extended by a day to further the scientific research being performed on the Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science-1 (ATLAS-1) payload. On board OV-104 for Mission STS-45 was a crew of seven.

Space Shuttle Photos – The newest addition to the Space Shuttle orbiter fleet, Endeavour, arrives at KSC atop the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft on May 7. OV-105 will be demated from the Boeing aircraft, and towed to the Vehicle Assembly Building for installation of several major flight components. Next step will be a lengthy stay in the Orbiter Processing Facility for a rigorous series of first flow tests. Endeavour is scheduled to lift off on its maiden space flight in 1992.
